The Story

Local vegetable producers collaborated to find ways to provide seasonal fresh produce to the Western Canadian grocery retail industry. The Prairie Fresh Food Corporation formed in the spring of 2013 and serves as a liaison between the producers and the retailer.

The Producers

The Prairie Fresh Food Corporation began in December 2013 with 16 Saskatchewan vegetable producers becoming shareholders. To date the PFFC has a total of 23 vegetable and fruit producers with 17 active shareholders in Saskatchewan and 6 active shareholders in Alberta.

The Prairie Fresh Food Corporation incorporated on April 16, 2013 with an original 16 Saskatchewan producers who became shareholders. PFFC moved forward with its first planting and harvest in 2013- growing a small crop of carrots and radishes. An additional Saskatchewan producer joined in 2014. Over the years the annual harvests have increased and demands for locally grown vegetables and fruit have exceeded expectations. An expansion process was launched in the spring of 2016 promoting PFFC into Alberta. At the annual meeting on November 9, 2016 - 6 Alberta vegetable and fruit growers joined the PFFC bringing the total to 23.
